Working from home – Insider threat
When employees are responsible for data breaches or leaks, it is called an “insider threat” because it originates within the workplace or organization. Another type of insider threat is when employees fail to safeguard sensitive information while their friends are around.
Friend-related insider threat is greater when working from home. Our friends, whom we’d like to think are trustworthy, have easy access to our homes. If we are working on confidential documents on our computers or printouts, it could be easy for them to get information about our business or clients that they shouldn’t have.
Malicious intent is not needed for a friend to become an insider threat. They can simply learn something of value from looking at your computer and printouts and use it for good gossip.
Make sure that confidential documents and data are in a safe place when your friends come to visit you at home or at work.
