We should always consider the possibility that an email account could have been hacked and that messages and requests from co-workers or business partners could be fake.
Hackers get into email accounts and lurk in there for a while before actually doing anything malicious. They use that time to study the language and lingo of the user and their recipients, “listen in” on conversations, and then take over when they get a chance to do some damage.
